Duhamel Joins Team Poker Stars Pro

The winner of 2010’s World Series of Poker tournament, Jonathan Duhamel, has signed on to become a member of Team Poker Stars Pro, one of the top online poker professional teams in the world. Duhamel joins top names such as Peter Eastgate, Chris Moneymaker and Joe Hachem to become an ambassador for Poker Stars. 23 year old Duhamel won an incredible $8.9 million when he beat the November Nine players in the final of the Main Event, becoming the first Canadian to pick up the prestigious bracelet.

In a statement issued by Poker Stars, the site said: “Team PokerStars Pro is nearly synonymous with world champions. From the very beginning, Team PokerStars Pro has been home to the WSOP main event winners. So, when Jonathan Duhamel stood from his seat at the Penn and Teller theatre as the world champion, there wasn't much doubt what was going to happen next.”

“Though you might have assumed so by now, this morning PokerStars.com made it official. Duhamel, the 2010 WSOP main event winner, is the newest member of Team PokerStars Pro.”

Duhamel was naturally thrilled with the deal and called it a “dream come true”.

“I want to be playing the biggest tournaments in the world. I'm going to do my best to pull off another big score,” he promised.

New Jersey Online Gambling Initiative Welcomed

Bill S490, which may see the introduction of intrastate online gambling in New Jersey, has been welcomed by gambling proponents across the board, including the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative. The group said in a statement: “We applaud the New Jersey legislature for adopting legislation to regulate and control Internet gambling activity, creating a common-sense framework for protecting consumers, creating jobs and stimulating the state's economy.”

“This vote is a positive step by creating a licensed and regulated online gambling environment with appropriate consumer protections for New Jersey residents – a much better approach than the failed attempts led by the federal government to prohibit the activity.  New Jersey will also be poised to capture new, much-needed revenue from the activity.”

The bill still needs to be signed into law by the governor of New Jersey; however, many are optimistic that this will be the first state to allow its residents to wager in a licensed and regulated environment online. The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative said that once the bill becomes law, New Jersey would be “at the forefront of efforts to regulate internet gambling activity in the US and will be setting an example of how regulation can work.”
