Norway’s Opposition Party Makes Online Gambling Promises

With the subject of online gambling so hot on the European continent these days, it is not surprising that politicians are using the issue on their agenda in order to attract votes. The latest comments about online gambling were made by Norway’s second largest party, the Fremskrittspartiet (Progress Party) under the leadership of its chairman Siv Jensen, which promised that if they came to power in next year’s elections, the state monopoly on gambling will come to an abrupt end.

The Progress Party’s deputy leader, Per Sandberg came out against the opposition Socialist Left, Labor and Centre party coalition government in its insistence on injecting a ‘morality’ concept when discussing gambling. “This is not a moral issue,” said Sandberg, “The morality of casinos and gambling is always been used by the red green parties. The fact is we already have the possibility to gamble online, and the state is very progressive operator, with Norsk Tipping launching new games all the time.”

“Our priority is to get private gaming operations including casinos legalized,” said Sandberg. “This is a policy that we have supported for many years.”
