Spanish Online Gambling Regulation Forges Ahead
Ever since the Spanish Cabinet approved the decrees on online gambling licensing and technical requirements the doors have opened for online casino operators to apply for online gambling licenses.
The Spanish Online Gambling Trade Association (AEDAPI) is very satisfied with the completion of this administrative step and a target date for Spain to establish an online gambling regulatory framework has been set for January 1, 2012.
However, the AEDAPI has pointed out that the high 25% taxation on operator’s net income and the fact that some forms of gambling will be temporarily excluded will result in the online gambling operators finding it difficult to make a profit in Spain.
Ladbrokes, the United Kingdom betting company has announced an agreement with Microgaming for its’ online casino and poker products as it wishes to enter the Spanish and Danish online gambling market and will also be leasing online poker software from Microgaming, thus enabling online gamblers in Spain and Denmark to benefit from a huge selection of poker cash games and tournaments.
Head of business development at Microgaming, Andy Clucas, said that Ladbrokes will be in a position to offer a competitive range of products once it receives a license to operate in Spain and Denmark.
