Legal Online Poker Launches in Nevada

The state of Nevada has made history by rolling out the first legal real money poker room in the United States. The new site, run by the Station Casinos owned Ultimate Gaming, offers online poker to players who are over 21 years of age and residents of Nevada. The launch is the culmination of years of hard work by Nevada to move around the controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Law and introduce intra-state online poker to its residents.

"We are proud to be the first company to deliver legal and secure real-money online gaming to poker players," said Ultimate Poker Chairman Tom Breitling. "We have worked closely with state gaming regulators to demonstrate our unique and compelling poker platform that, above all, players know they can trust. Ultimate Poker is dedicated to being the players' choice for online poker."

Brand ambassador for Ultimate Poker, Antonio Esfandiari added: “This day has been a long time coming. Online poker in the United States is finally here and totally legit.”

With the launch of online poker in Nevada, it is expected that New Jersey and Delaware will also be rolling out online gambling sites by the end of this year.

PokerStars Deal with Atlantic Club Casino is Off

The Atlantic Club Casino in New Jersey issued a brief statement this week, saying that its deal with the parent company of Poker Stars online poker room, Rational Group, has been terminated. The two entered into a conditional agreement earlier this year, where Rational Group agreed to purchase the struggling casino as long as it received the green light from New Jersey authorities to offer its online gambling platform to state residents. Rational Group recently completed a licensing process and is awaiting confirmation from the authorities to see whether it has been successful or not. The group has faced major opposition by the US casino trade group, AGA which strongly condemned Poker Stars’ re-entry into the US gambling market.

The Chief Operating Executive of the Atlantic Club Casino, Michael Frawley issued a brief statement saying that the deal was off. No reason was given. He also sounded optimistic about the future of the battling casino by saying: “The advent of New Jersey’s online gaming legislation has changed Atlantic City’s future for the better and the Atlantic Club is absolutely going to be part of that future.”
